The device which uses the same processor as the Sony PS3 and the Xbox 360 was capable of delivering 3d without
glasses and recording up to 8 HD TV channels at once.
The startling news was broken by Atsushi Murasawa, head of Toshiba visual products at the European IFA show in
Berlin overnight after he revealed a brand new 400Hz processor codenamed Cevo, which he claims will allow
Toshiba to deliver 3D LED TV without glasses by as early as the first quarter of 2011.
The new technology is tipped to be shown at the Ceatec show in Japan in October and officially launched at CES
2011.
Murasawa said in Berlin "Glasses free 3D? Yes, sure, but as of today we are not ready to come to market with
glasses-free, but we are going to make some announcement about glasses free 3D in the small screen sizes in
October...Ceatec."
the new Toshiba 55ZL1 Cevo powered platform is said to be the most advanced TV processor in the world which
Murasawa claims delivers smoother images and 512 LED clusters for local dimming, which Toshiba claims delivers
perfect black reproduction. He said that the design of the process also delivers a "lower level" of crosstalk
which is ideal for 3D LED TV reproduction and is cheaper to manufacture than the Cell processor.
Four weeks ago local Toshiba CEO Mark Whittard was claiming that the 3D Cell LED TV was set to be launched in
Australia by Xmas.
